Missions are a big part of FCC. The mission wagons (little red wagons) roll down the aisles during worship service collecting items on a regular basis. From school supplies and toiletries, to household items, the items collected are donated to various organizations including Palmyra Food Pantry, Palmyra Head Start, and Maple Lawn’s Sunshine Ladies.
Not only does FCC participate in Palmyra Area Ministerial Alliance’s (PAMA) Adopt-a-Child at Christmas, it also adopts the children and staff at Palmyra Head Start. FCC Member and Outreach Committee Chair Nancy Goellner’s mother, Maureen, worked at Head Start for many years. Nancy knows - first-hand - how the organization impacts the children and families in our community and has a heart for this special organization.
Our biggest outreach event is the Children’s Christmas Store. The Children’s Store was an event that was held by another Palmyra organization when many of our members’ children were young but stopped in recent years. Yvonne Goellner, FCC member and 2021 stewardship chair, proposed the idea of bringing back the store so Palmyra area children could shop for their loved ones. Each year since, the store has grown. In 2022, the Children’s Christmas Store opened on Friday evening so children and adults with special needs could shop for their loved ones in a less hectic environment.
The store features items for everyone from baby brothers and sisters to grandmas and grandpas. The store is filled with handmade craft items, woodworking projects that have been donated, trinkets that have been purchased, and everything in between.
In 2023, over 1200 gifts were chosen, bought, wrapped, and sent home with local children. Gifts range in price from 25c to $1. No matter how much money the children bring with them, and no matter how many gifts the children choose, they always get money back.
100% of the money raised through the Children’s Christmas Store is given back to our community. Organizations who have benefited from the Christmas Store include Maple Lawn Nursing Home and Palmyra Food Pantry.
Prepping for the store begins in the summer with the Christmas elves getting together to make crafts and trinkets that will be sold.

Each month FCC takes up special offerings. These offerings will be given to various Christian non-profit, community-focused organizations. A few examples include, local needs, WGCA, KJIR, and Birthright)
Love offerings are not uncommon as well. When a community member has a fire, a missionary speaks during worship, or when a special need is brought to our attention, the congregation fully supports these offerings.
Seeing the need for people to pray more, Seekers Sunday School Teacher Mary Jo Ragar started the Yellow Pray Sign ministry. In 2016, Mary Jo took it upon herself to have 24”x18” yard signs that had a yellow background the the word PRAY in black type printed. The FCC congregation fell in love with this ministry and soon the Palmyra community caught word about it and started purchasing the signs for just $10. Still today, the signs can be seen in various yards in the community. FCC has Pray signs available for purchase.
