WHO WE ARE

who we are

Welcome from Pastor Mark Carpenter

Welcome to First Christian Church! Our congregation is filled with wonderful people who make up this branch of the family of God. And that is what we are - a family, bound together by the blood of Jesus. We are a family that has experienced tragedy, grief, and sorrow. We are a family that has experienced tremendous joy. We are a family that is growing closer to Christ and growing in number.

If you are searching for a church family - give us a try. We are a congregation that understands brokenness and healing, grace and forgiveness. While we are reverent in our worship - we are NOT uptight. We start our Sunday mornings with fellowship and coffee bar from 10-10:45am.  Grab your coffee and head to one of two Sunday School classes at 10am. Our traditional worship begins at 11am. In addition to prayer requests, announcements, New and Old Testament readings, and the sermon, we also have a children’s sermon within the service, and during the pastoral prayer candles can be lit in honor or memory of loved ones.

Get a glimpse into who we are, what our services are like, and watch past services and sermons by checking out our Facebook page @fccpalmyra.

We invite you to join us as together we understand the Psalmist when he wrote “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let US go to the house of the Lord.’”

Your brother in Christ,

Pastor Mark Carpenter

What we believe

  • Open Communion

The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship and is open to all who believe in Christ our Savior.

  • The Oneness of the Church

All Christians are called to be one in Christ and to see opportunities for common witness and service.

  • Freedom of Belief

As Disciples, we are called together around two essentials of faith: believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and that Christians are free to follow their conscience guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others.

  • Baptism by Immersion

In baptism, the self-centered life is set aside, washed away and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are accepted/honored.

  • Ministry of Believers

Both ordained ministers and lay people lead in worship, service, and spirited growth.

Disciple heritage fellowship

Palmyra First Christian Church leans heavily on the foundation of the Disciple Heritage Fellowship (DHF).

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

- John 3:16
