WHAT TO EXPECT

Our Sunday service, held in our recently remodeled sanctuary, begins at 11am. Worship begins with announcements, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, and taking prayer requests. Our pianist sets the tone for the worship service with a beautiful prelude while the acolytes bring the light of God into the sanctuary. Pastor Mark begins with a call to worship, generally a congregational reading from Psalms which draws our attention to God. Following the call to worship, Mark will pray for those mentioned in prayer requests, and will pray for our congregation, our community, our country, and our world. During this pastoral prayer, members are encouraged to light candles in honor or memory of loved ones. The pastoral prayer ends with the Lord’s prayer. Church members volunteer to greet members and guests as they enter the church, make announcements, and read scripture.

In addition to giving the sermon, Mark invites children to the altar for the day’s children’s sermon. During this time, Mark enjoys getting to know the children and talking to them about what the day’s sermon focuses on. It isn’t unusual for their knowledge of Christ, and their fun personalities, to come shining through.

At First Christian Church, The Lord's Supper is served every Sunday. FCC has open communion - meaning - anyone who believes in Jesus as our Lord and Savior is welcome to partake. We celebrate communion by the passing of the trays of wafers and juice (representing the Body and Blood of Jesus). We hold the cup so we can all drink together.

In addition to knowing what a church’s foundational beliefs are, we know a concern for many is “What should I wear?” When it comes to how FCC members dress - you will see everything from business casual to jeans, shorts, and tees. Pastor Mark enjoys wearing khakis, dress shirt, and vest, sometimes jeans and a sport coat, and sometimes jeans and a polo. At FCC, we aren’t concerned about how you are dressed. We care about your salvation!

Want a glimpse into who we are, what our services are like? Watch past services and sermons by checking out our Facebook page @fccpalmyra. We continue to broadcast Mark’s sermons via Facebook live. Generally, they start around 11:15/11:20.

We invite you to join us as together we understand the Psalmist when he wrote “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ’Let US go to the house of the Lord.’”

WORSHIP

FCC is a congregation that understands brokenness and healing, grace and forgiveness. While we are reverent in our worship - we are NOT uptight.

We gather in our sanctuary at 11am for our weekly worship service.

Come and experience what it is like to be gathered together as a family of believers who are worshiping, learning, and enjoying getting to know each other and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

children's SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our children's Sunday School class is currently reading through the Bible. The class focuses on investigating deeper into each book and learning about the history, events, and people found in the Bible.

Children’s class meets in the fellowship hall in the basement next to the kitchen.

SEEKERS

Members of the Seekers class take turns in leading various bible studies. Past studies include many written by Max Lacado.
Seekers meet in the classroom behind the sanctuary.

PASTOR MARK'S CLASS

Pastor Mark's class is composed of individuals and couples ranging in age from their 20s up.

This class varies regarding what topics, devotions, etc. are discussed. Sometimes, Mark will give a pre-view of the day's sermon or bring a blog post to be discussed. Sometimes Advent/Lenten seasonal devotional series are held.

The class meets in Mark’s office located up the stairs from the fellowship basement just off the copier room. From the sanctuary, take the stairs in the back to the first landing turn right. The office door is located next to the copier.

FCC WEEKLY COFFEE BAR

Each week, a coffee bar featuring fresh brewed coffee, a variety of syrups, and creamers is available. Additional non-coffee options are available as well including hot tea, cocoa, milk, chocolate milk, juice/seasonal drinks.

Once a month, and/or on special occasions, donuts and pastries will also be available.

The coffee bar is located in the back of the sanctuary. Pub tables are available, and fellowship is encouraged.

BIBLE STUDIES
MEN’S DONUTS & DEVOTION

Men of all ages (yes - including toddlers!) are invited to attend Pastor Mark’s Donuts & Devotion. Generally this small group meets in FCC’s fellowship basement on the second Saturday of each month at 8am. Donuts and drinks are provided. (Sometimes a breakfast casserole will make an appearance as well!)

BIBLE STUDIES

Coffee with Christ Ladies Group meets on the third Saturday of each month at 8am.

Participants are encouraged to bring their coffee, Bible, and friends to these events. Topics vary from month to month.

Is the Lord calling you to lead a Bible study? At First Christian Church, everyone is welcome to suggest, lead, and/or find Bible studies. Feel free to contact our current Christian Education Chair to discuss any ideas or suggestions.

Because we know we have friends and family who want to attend, but due to living too far away, or possibly health reasons, we live feed our weekly sermons via Facebook Live.

FELLOWSHIP

MONTHLY FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEONS

The kitchen committee oversees monthly fellowship lunches. Each month a volunteer or group of volunteers choose to host a carry-in luncheon in the church’s fellowship basement. Hosts get to choose the theme for the meal (ie: Mexican Fiesta, Back to School BBQ, Potato Bar, Soup & Sandwiches, etc.) and church members carry-in side dishes and desserts to round out the meal. The hosts oversee the entire meal - from sending sign-up sheets around during worship, to planning, set-up, serving, and clean-up. The kitchen committee, along with church members, assist in any way needed.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT EVENTS

Setting aside time and making plans to engage with each other isn’t easy. We know everyone is busy. Busy with children and sports, busy with work and life in general. But we also know that gathering outside of worship is extremely important. Getting to know our brothers and sisters in Christ is key to being a Christian.

From attending baseball games, going bowling, and movie nights, to educational classes, themed Saturday gatherings (Ladies Luncheons, Mother/Daughter teas, etc), First Christian Church members enjoy gathering together for fellowship.

Our membership and evangelism committee is always looking for ideas for engagement activities.
